"Laborer"
The faces of women working in the fields are covered in mud, applied to protect their skin from the harsh African sun. Yet their expressions remain dignified and composed, almost resembling the effect of heavy makeup.
Their worn and torn shoes are stained with splashes of mud. Plastic sheets are wrapped around their waists as they work, while torn African textiles are tied, patched, and pieced together, taking on new forms through necessity.
The photographs, rendered in faded tones, capture people engaged in hard labor day after day—not through hardship alone, but with a sense of positivity, dreams, and quiet strength. There is something fresh and unexpected in the way they are portrayed.
The 2027 Spring/Summer collection draws inspiration from a photobook documenting agricultural workers on farms in Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, and South Africa during the 1990s.
Through their worn garments, improvised materials, and dignified expressions, the collection explores the beauty that emerges from necessity, resilience, and the act of creating something new from what already exists.
